Coco goes to Cheltenham

I am still plodding around at home like a sick donkey, propped up at my computer in ancient pyjamas and tattered tartan dressing gown. It is not a good look, but needs must. Nevertheless, will be sprightly again soon -- am praying on a regular basis at the shrine of Coco Chanel -- and off to talk about The Great One at the Cheltenham festival next week (Thursday 15th October). The website says it's sold out, but I have a feeling that there will be space for anyone who really, really wants to go, as I think there might be extra tickets available on the day. Let me know here, and I'll see what I can do...

Oh, that's a shame - I'd never be able to get time off work, otherwise I'd have been there! Are there any other dates planned? Are you anywhere near Oxford soon?
Good to know you're feeling slightly better.

Glad you are better. Tattered tartan sounds lovely, somehow. Hard to be on another continent, with that kind of offer.

I am trying to picture a donkey tottering about in pajamas (please tell me they have sheep or flowers on them) and tartan dressing gown, and it is making me giggle. I suspect if I were a writer who worked at home I would probably dress like that, sick or well (reminds me of Sarah Mower's article in American Vogue some years ago about trying to come up with a non-sloppy at-home work outfit and balancing that with slickly tailored suits for days at the office).

Is that the cover for your Chanel book? Looks wonderful - can't wait to get my hands on it.

What a wonderful cover ! I can't wait to read what's between the cover. Please please let me know if you are giving any talks in November and get better. Maybe a pair of pyjamas from chanel would do the trick or did she just sleep in her birthday suit ?

Look after yourself and you should be on fine form for Cheltenham. Wish I was in the vicinity. It's a long way from Surrey to Cheltenham.

Much better now, thank you all very much. Am out of my tattered tartan and in jeans again, plus stripy top and red cashmere cardigan. Reasonably acceptable day wear, I think, for the homeworker...
Chanel wore very elegant white beach pyjamas (on the Venice Lido), but not sure about she wore what in bed. Probably like Marilyn Monroe, who when asked that question, simply replied, Chanel no.5.

Hi Justine, I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to send me your quotes for our favourite lines page on the Daphne du Maurier website, especially as you have been poorly and must be very involved with your new book about Coco Chanel and your event at the Cheltenham Festival next week. The favourite lines page was inspired by a comment made by Daphne du Maurier's editor Sheila Hodges, who spoke to us of the music of Daphne's prose. In January we started collecting favourite quotes from everyone who has an interest in du Maurier's writing and asked people to comment on their choices. So far we have over a hundred quotes, making what must be a unique record of this much loved author. Anyone who would like to contribute can e-mail me at Bookends of Fowey, via our website. This is my first ever blog, so I hope I have done it right! Much love and thanks Ann.

Justine, it's not true that Marilyn had nothing on. She had the radio on.
