The Tarland Show

The season of festivals continues -- my friends and their children talk enthusiastically about Latitude, the Big Chill, and other fashionable gatherings -- but to be honest, I cannot imagine anything more dismal than camping with tens of thousands of others. People talk about the free spirit (even though the alcohol is very expensive) and endless nights of fun (in other words, sleep deprivation), but I am more excited about the Tarland Show; of which more later...

studI think I am with you on festivals. I can't think of anything worse. We have Guildfest on our doorstep here and whilst it's mainly 16-18 yr olds that go I have heard from the adults that do brave it its full of drunks, rubbish everywhere - sounds like a nightmare to me. That's without factoring in the camping. Your Highland festival looks so much more civilised.

I am so with you there, I have reached the age when a matttress is mandatory. The only chemical loo I have used this year was at a literary festival - I am sooo middle aged - but comfortable with it! Lovely photos, magnificent tartan.

I can't wait to hear more about the Tarland show. The second picture reminds me of my first experience witnessing Morris dancers. My friend and I didn't know what to expect and were completely flummoxed when several be-kilted men began leaping in the air and waving white kerchiefs.

Yes, camping AND hordes of people sounds nightmarish.
While a good country fair is always fun.
Looking forward to the next post.
And by the way; yes, hooray for prams in the hall.

Quite agree with you about chemical loos -- the only ones I've negotiated this year was at the Port Eliot festival. Back to wrestling with uploading photographs on very limited broadband in the Highlands; but doing my best.
