Proof, at last, that couture cakes and Chanel can inhabit the same kitchen counter. I have been enjoying these delicious cupcakes from Samantha Blears -- although they looked too good to eat, I couldn't resist them -- and have been carrying my book bag with pride...

Still making my way slowly through the book, like Charlie Bucket eating his precious birthday chocolate nibble by nibble, never dreaming that a Golden Ticket was around the corner, waiting to change his life forever...
Of course there is no Golden Ticket for me, only lovely people I get to strike up conversations with, online and in real life, conversations that will, in turn, change my life too...

My kitchen is that much less elegant. I am currently channeling a 1960's kitchen sink drama - I have achieved the look with copious amounts of wet washing and a large mug of builders tea..
I am so glad you liked the cakes. My daughter and I are loving your book - it such a lovely read and perfect for my girl and I as we love fashion. Hope the book signings continue to go well - my friends and I really enjoyed the one we attended at Waterstones. Totally inspiring!
The Love Bakery couture cupcakes are exquisite; definitely the ideal partner to reading a book (mine, hopefully), along with a cup of tea. I'm all for a builder's mug, but am now installed at the Balmoral in Edinburgh, drinking a very good brew of Brodie's tea, and admiring the view of the castle.
That view (and the tea) sounds lovely, Justine. I have a giant (pint) mug of strong, milky tea at my desk. There are no windows, and therefore no view, so I've put a photograph of a foggy beach on the Washington coast on my computer desktop, and there is poetry on my wall, to read when I need a moment.
Kairu, I'm thinking of you, as I have another quick cup of tea -- tea being the answer to most problems -- before heading downstairs to launch my book in Edinburgh. Am feeling more than a little jittery, but nice to know that you, and others, are out there...
Pity I am not in Edinburgh, Justine, otherwise I would bring you a small flask of scotch (since you are in Scotland). For a friend's first book-reading last winter I found the most darling flask and filled it with bourbon...she says it has gotten her and her friends through many readings and presentations.
Hope it went well. I am sure that it did. I was in H.R. Stokes last night in Elizabeth Street and they had copies of your book. They thought the book was lovely. Everyone loves it.
Could do with a sip of Scotch right now! But very glad to hear my book is in Elizabeth Street...
Where is your tour taking you next?
I'm going to Paris at the beginning of next week, to see the Chanel show on Tuesday. Then the following week am doing a talk at the V&A (Friday 15th), then Dublin, Chester, Manchester, and some more places in London, like Daunt's bookshop in Marylebone High Street.
When is your book out?
The Chanel Show - oh my goodness! That will be amazing! And so exciting!
I tried to book to bring my daughter along to your V&A evening and it is fully booked. Good news for you but bad news for us!
October 22nd is the big day for the Love Bakery book - very exciting! I have a book signing at Harrods which already is making me feel really nervous. Do you get nervous?
You must come with your daughter to the V&A talk -- I'll arrange tickets for you (and indeed any other blog readers, as long as you let me know know).
