Through the wardrobe...
OK, here's my attempt at coaxing Chanel out of the shadows. Hope you like the film: it was made in my (very messy) study, where I sit and write this blog, and you also get to see my bedroom. I've just tried to watch the video on amazon, and it keeps crashing (whenever I get to Chanel's apartment -- mysteriously, the computer says no); but hopefully some of you will persevere with it. Let me know what you think!

Lovely! (The clip I saw ends at 00:41 minutes, on the photo of Chanel lounging with a book). I had an email this morning saying my copy has been 'dispatched' (I love the British 'dispatched' instead of the American 'shipped') and hope the Royal Mail will get it here sooner than the estimated October 5th.
The file on the Amazon site is only 41 seconds long, so it's not literally crashing for me and Kairu as that's all the running time there is. Somehow it's not allowed you to upload any more than that little fragment. But it's a very beguiling taster, none the less, with nice slow dissolve mixes between the piano-accompanied textual close-ups. It looks very good. It's just a shame you've both teased and then cheated all us voyeurs from being able to pass judgement on the 'mess' in your study and bedroom - presumably those shaming scenes came later. Any chance you could upload the full director's cut...?
After that video I really cannot wait for my parcel to arrive! You keep introducing us to strong women. Thank you!
The whole film should be up and running now on amazon; the very clever director has managed to avoid the messiest corners of my house, for which I am most grateful. I did an interview this week, and the journalist asked me what my next project was: I um-ed and ah-ed, but what I should have said was 'tidying up the teetering piles of paperwork and weird detritus that have built up over the last two years.'
I just watched the whole video and I am more excited than ever to read the book!!! My copy was also 'dispatched' today to Florida. Are there any plans for appearances in the US?

I just watched you in the full screen splendour of my 23" Mac. Yes, a lovely little film. I wonder how long my copy will take to get "shipped" to Australia after its "dispatch" from the UK. And we have almost identical glasses!
After watching your short film I am even more excited about getting my copy 'despatched' to me.
That's better...a perfect invitation to delve further into the enigma. Beautifully done. I like the juxtaposition of two women in their 'apartments' - Chanel forever imprinted in that iconic portal above the boutique and you chanelling her in your light-filled rooms back in N8. But forget Diaghilev, Nijinsky and those other ghosts: I was willing Lizzie's catflap to swing open one last time as you were speaking...
The jacket is from Chanel. The glasses are from Luton airport. For those of you who don't live in the UK, Luton airport is a hub for budget flights, and not known for its glamour. I have waited long hours in Luton airport, on a number of occasions in the past year, delayed and thwarted and with nothing to do but eat croissants from Pret A Manger, and examine the shelves of a very small Boots the Chemist outlet. Imagine my surprise, then, to find a nice pair of budget reading glasses; just what I needed after my eyes were forever strained by reading Bronte manuscripts during the research for my last book... Reader, I bought them, and have worn them ever since.
If there were two things I wish could be imported here to Australia from the UK they would be Boots, and Marks and Spencer food halls.
I'd be lost without Boots and M&S: No 7 Protect and Preserve skin cream and M&S shortbread are an integral part of my daily regime.
