Chanel sunbathing

V. thrilled to be on the sun-lounger with Laura Bailey... Check out the stripes! The glasses! The hat! Coco would mightily approve...
PS. If anyone lives in Dublin and wants to have afternoon tea with me and the fashion editor of the Irish Times, Deidre McQuillan at the Westbury hotel, here's your chance. It may not be as sunny as Miami, and there will be no bikinis, but chic nonetheless...

Very glam! I have been reading Coco in gray Seattle, at night in my flannel pajama pants that have bears on them, and on weekend mornings in my fleecy robe, with a cup of tea on the nightstand...I am not sure Mademoiselle would approve of the bears.

What a fabulous picture of Miss Bailey. She has written about your book on her Vogue blog too. Great to see you this evening. Georgie and I loved your presentation - utterly mesmerising! The rest of audience were spellbound too. Have a good weekend.

Hi Justine,

I study BA Fashion design and I am writing my dissertation on the early years of Gabrielle Chanel. Mima told me you had a book out and I immediately ordered one of amazon.
Please let me know if you are having any talks etc in the future.

My thesis is in the very early stages. I just came up with the topic so I am still a novice.

Take care x

I have just read your Stella article. It is so nice to be able to wear one's 16yr old sons cast offs, particularly sports tops for dog walking! However any other interesting shirts, t shirts or hoodies are often whipped away by ones 14 yr old daughter.

Flying the Coop -- I'm doing a talk at Daunt's in Marylebone High Street next Monday (October 25th) at 7pm: details here, and link is also on home page of my blog:

Am sitting here in my son's cast off t-shirt, hoody, and an ancient pair of track suit bottoms (as women of my age refer to them; can't quite bring myself to say 'sweatpants'!).

Hi Justine,

My name is Charlotte and I attended your wonderful talk at the V and A on Friday. I found it really insightful and now reading the book feels even more exciting, each individual nugget of information feels as though I am stumbling upon all the treasures you have discovered. I think for any Chanel fan it is a really precious read. Thank you so much.
On the evening I also mentioned to you that I am currently doing my BA at Central St Martins and was wondering if you had any possible openings for any form of work experience. I would really appreciate any opportunity you would be able to give me as I really admire the mesmerising style of your work.
Thank you so much,
I look forward to hearing from you,
Yours Sincerely,
Charlotte Brohier

Am in Dublin, and don't seem to be able to create new posts -- very frustrating computer problems. But please do welcome my friend Polly Samson's blog -- and her new book of short stories, Perfect Lives. It's been my traveling companion, and is an absolutely compelling collection -- interwoven tales of love lost, and love found; of how the imperfections in our lives form the cracks that let the light in.

Those stories sound lovely. Adding them to my list.

How is Dublin? Fall has definitely come to Seattle - I woke to cool fog, but then the sky cleared all day, into a beautiful pale sunset.

A friend gave me a bag of tomatoes (grown on her balcony), the last of the year, incredibly sweet. Felt a little surreal to think that it's more than halfway through October...
