Fashion uncovered?

I'm one of the speakers talking at the Tabernacle tomorrow evening, as part of the Five by Fifteen series. The brief is admirable: "true stories of passion, obsession and adventure recounted live with just two rules: no scripts and only fifteen minutes each." Nerve-racking -- but clearly a good challenge -- as is the prospect of tomorrow morning on Woman's Hour. I'm thinking about corsets and Coco Chanel, beauty and horror, Galliano and McQueen; about what we uncover and how we cover up...

Thanks for the link to the 5x15 series. It looks very interesting and I'm going to listen to Alain de Botton tomorrow and will listen to you if/when they put it on the site. It's these sorts of events that make me very envious of Londoners.
I also bookmarked the Little Bird site and have already noted some things to see/do when we are in London in July/August.
Have you had any vague thoughts about a new book yet?

Hi Justine,

I enjoyed the R4 discussion on Eating Disorders and completly agree with the perspectives raised by the speakers. I know Coco was slim and fashion promotes an 'ideal' but I am sure she would be horrified at how 'diminished' the 'ideal' has become for some people.

Best Wishes
Jools

Just listened on iplayer, I wish there was something women as a collective could do to help counteract the pernicious and virulent view that infects girls as soon as they arrive in secondary education, that they are not thin enough- no matter what their size. It is endemic now and utterly destructive. I agree with your point too that it's not just fashion, it's all media that helps to foster this belief.
