John Galliano and Kate Moss's wedding dress

While having lunch today at the Berkeley hotel -- meeting very clever Sylvie Chantecaille -- who should be at the next table but John Galliano? He looked thin, serious, and sober -- drinking water, eating little, head down, but doubtless in town to finish the final touches to Kate Moss's wedding dress in time for tomorrow; of which more here...

What do all these people do with their wedding dresses- keep them in plastic in the cupboard. A most stylish friend of mine wrapped a beautiful piece of cloth around herself and placed a garland of flowers from her garden on her head. She looked wonderful.By the way I was delighted to find some unread ( for me ) Sybille Bedfords in Daunts today so thanks for steering me towards her.

Well, there certainly won't be any difficulty in the future in setting up museums of early 21st century wedding dresses!
I was a civil marriage celebrant in Australia for twelve years and I could write a book about weddings and unsuitable wedding dresses but might get sued. I once did one where a beautiful young woman in strapless, corseted satin with four bridesmaids similarly in pale blue, married the leader of a bikie gang, all in their leathers, denims and chains. Her parents looked on in silence and I sometimes wonder what happened to them.

What a wonderful story -- it's so cinematic, like the opening scene of a movie!
