Rediscovering Daphne

Thanks to some thoughtful questions from Savidge Reads and Novel Insights, I've been absorbed in Du Maurier again. Excellent questions from Simon and Polly, and good to read along with their 'Discovering Daphne' blogs. They've taken me back to Menabilly again (and its ghosts, and mine), and from there down the track and through the tree to that cottage in the woods...

Another bit of strange serendipity - I watched a rerun here a few days ago of the movie "Daphne". Hadn't seen it before. It's not a good movie by a long shot, in fact some aspects are woefully bad - a big block of cheese, as one reviewer put it - but it was still worth watching for the scenery, the letters being read aloud, and the insights into her from those letters.

Ah, the joys of serendipity. Not that I enjoyed the film of Daphne -- even the scenery didn't make up for the prevailing cheese and ham...

Justine, thanks to your book 'Daphne',I have spent some time this past year re-discovering DdM too as can be seen from the reading list on my blog:-) I particularly loved Don't Look Now and Other Stories.

And of course Rebecca - oh yes, that cottage in the woods.

My daughter and I loved your book Daphne. A fascinating and bewitching woman of a different time. Let me know if you would like to hold a picardie/bloggers/cupcake moment at the shop. We would be honoured to hold such an event. Love Sam

I did enjoy a movie of Don't Look Now with Julie Christie. What a great cover in your photo. I am afraid I do judge a book by its cover. I look forward to a blogger party.

I still shiver over your description of the haunted cottage in the woods..

Apologies for silence -- was blocked from my blog by some inexplicable glitch with blogger.com. I nearly resorted to posting as a guest, but that seemed absurd...
