Today we walked up to Alexandra Palace

A sunny Sunday, and my son and I set off to admire the view over the city, all the way south to the Kent hills. On the way home, we bought fresh fish at the Farmer's Market, a bunch of green parsley, and a good handful of courgettes (a recipe for a happy Sunday evening: supper then Homeland = bliss). In the afternoon, I swept autumn leaves from the garden and planted dozens of bulbs. The squirrels will eat some, inevitably, but I'm hoping that the alliums will survive and flourish next spring...

I will keep my fingers crossed for your bulbs... I am enjoying my first ever copy of HB, so much to read. Must also say I love the dress you wore to the HB Women Of The Year awards. A study in elegance.

Thank you. By the way, I'd recommend a subscription to Bazaar, if you like it: it's much cheaper than buying on the news-stand, and you should get a treat of a beauty product with your subscription!

What a great day- a walk and fresh vegetables and Homeland. I watched Homeland in London and was delighted that it was on here as well. So on Wednesday night I made myself comfortable in front of the tv - only to discover that our television breaks every 15 minutes for advertisements and that was sooooooooooooom irritating that I will wait for the boxed set. Do you think I can get a subscription to HB which would be sent here ? ps I loved the Diana Vreeland movie

We get adverts in Homeland too -- so annoying. But I am hooked, so can't wait for the boxed set to come out. Will investigate Harper's Bazaar subscription to South Africa. It must be possible.

I wonder if allium bulbs taste like raw onion - same genus but I don't know if that follows. And if it does, would that make them less palatable to a squirrel! Or more perhaps...

I thought alliums less palatable, as they have survived the squirrel onslaught before, but having just inspected my rain-sodden garden, the blighters have eaten these ones, as well.

Lovely photos. I lived in Kent for two years but have never been to Alexandra Palace. Am already looking forward to our next trip to the UK in July/August.11

enid - I just checked out the HB website and they do subscriptions to "the rest of the world" (ie not US or Europe) for £69 a year.
