The January issue of Harper's Bazaar...

... is out tomorrow. It feels scary, as well as exciting, like having the first draft of a new book published... which I hope you might find intriguing, as an insight into developing ideas. Regular readers of this blog may very well recognize themes and motifs from previous preoccupations and pieces of work (Chanel, Vreeland, Dior, et al; the landscape of art and fashion, and an exploration of how understanding the past is a way to move forwards). Anyway, here's a peek from behind the scenes of the cover shoot. And there's lots more inside the magazine, including a Titian detective story by Hannah Rothschild, and a wonderful memoir by Tanya Gold. Please do let me know what you think...

Congratulations Justine. I will buy a copy especially, I must admit I haven't bought Harpers Bazaar before but I will definitely give it a whirl.

Congratulations Justine! I'm a subscriber so I got my copy early and loved it. The cover is beautiful and I can see little elements of you throughout. Looking forward to the next one.

I'm not done yet with the Jan issue - it takes me ages to read magazines, I'm a one article/section at a sitting reader. And I always read them from the back to the front for some reason. But chiming in to say I love it so far. The DV "Why Don't You…?" adds a real classic feel, great balance of articles and it all looks beautiful too.

How refreshing to pick up a magazine with an elegantly minimal cover that doesn't hurl headlines at the prospective reader. That's about as far as I've got! Looking forward to exploring the features.

Justine, I love your story about Sienna Miller. Such a good read. I am very excited about the changes in the magazine and also the new additions to the Masthead. Especially Leith Clark and Jay Hess. They will bring a fresh air to the magazine. Well done!

We( as DV says never say I )just love the new HB and travelling with you.
There is so much to read and it is all crisp and clean to look at. I love Why Don’t You and will try all. I have already tied a scarf around my handbag handle, The Talking Points was filled with divine things especially the promise of Sensory Perfection in books and books to look forward to ( not the same old reviews of the same old books ) The questions for Ian McKellan were inspired and both Hannah Rothschild and Tanya Gold gave me loads of reading fun. I liked your interview with Sienna as it gave another side of her and was so personal. Please please continue with more magazine issues like this one. I often buy magazines which I read in a minute. This one is next to my bed and has given so much joy and will still give more as I journey through it ( Woops I mean we ). I just LOVE it.

Thank you so much, everyone! I was feeling a bit despondent and dispirited today -- one of those days when it feels like you're wading through thick mud -- and now I'm feeling much more cheerful. I think I was suffering from postnatal blues... that, and anxiety at the thought of the looming March issue deadlines. Anyway, am so glad that people like 'Why Don't You?'. Must start thinking of some more soonest, for next issue.

Congratulations! Harper's looks very sophisticated. I am so glad you did not go down the Vogue route. I don't know what happened to Vogue but the magazine is not looking it's best. Really looking forward to the next issues and how it will develop.

Well, it's clear that Harpers Bazaar is in new hands and it's significantly the better for it - congratulations, Justine. I've just got my mitts on the December issue (I'm afraid I borrowed it from the Wellington, NZ, public library) and I've devoured it. It's a delight: the overall impact is clean and elegant, and the content is intelligent. Thank you. A belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you!
