One day I will be free as a bird to waft off wherever I fancy, until then, have a lovely time in the V & A and do give it my regards.
I love the clothes on Gloria Swanson! Also the perfect suit on Jeanne Moreau in Les Amants. Funny to think about the directors of the French New Wave dressing their women in Chanel, both in Les Amants and Last Year in Marienbad...
Do you remember our previous blog conversations about Last Night in Marienbad?
And Lilac, perhaps you could visit the V&A for the Hollywood Costume exhibition later this year? It opens on October 20...
Justine, I remember it came up while you were working on the Chanel book, but I forgot exactly when that was or what we said...
Feathers, little black dresses, evening gowns -- wonderful clothes, but what on earth was going on in the film?!
Ah, yes. The fashion grounded the confusion of the film as a Chanel pump grounds the outfit, a spot of black across the toe an anchor to the weightlessness of tulle and feathers...
I hired the film after that original discussion and have to totally agree - beautiful clothes, pity about the plot!
Did anyone see 'The Well Digger's Daughter'? What a beautiful film - one where you came out thinking it could have been done no better. Love the funny face of Daniel Auteuil.
Haven't seen it, but will look out for it now on DVD.
Kairu -- you have described Marienbad perfectly!
I loved The Baroness and as you said it resonated with me. I remember seeing Marienbad and it was preceded by a talk on the movie which lasted an hour !!!!! That is what I remember most about it. I saw an interview with Anna Wintour who spoke about Schiaparelli and Chanel. Now what about a book about Schiaparelli ?
Dear Justine,
I don't know how to contact you and then try it with a comment.
I saw your book "Coco Chanel The Legend and the Life" and in an Italian magazine in which I work, Horse Power, we would like to do an article on Coco and serve his photos on horseback. I've seen the book. Could you tell me how to find it under conditions sufficient to be published in print? Thanks you do me a big favor!
